NatWest CricketForce is an ECB volunteering initiative aimed at rejuvenating the nation’s cricketing facilities before the start of the season.
CricketForce encourages cricket supporters, their friends and families to give something back to their local community cricket club by volunteering to undertake major renovations to clubhouses and grounds, CricketForce usually takes place during an allocated weekend.
This year’s NatWest CricketForce saw over 1900 clubs take part in preparing their club and recruiting volunteers for the fourthcoming season.
In Worcestershire we had over 35 clubs take part in the event, clubs were tasked with sprucing up their clubhouse, inviting the local community to have a taste of what club cricket brings and most importantly recruiting new volunteers and members.
Avoncroft Cricket Club opened their doors to the community during the 2011 NatWest CricketForce, those who attended were treated to junior squad demonstrations, stalls and games and a BBQ. The main treat of all was the attendance of two WCCC first team players Jack Manuel & Shaaiq Choudhry who ran coaching sessions.
Along with this all of the members, players and even some new faces rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into some painting, and cleaning of the pavilion. Although it was not a fundraising event the club raised £100, to add to the success of the event the local newspaper ran an article on Avoncroft CC’s great community spirit which further publicised the great work and community cohesion CricketForce has to offer.
